This document is the first of a two-part report that comprehensively examines Pakistan’s private healthcare sector. To develop a deep and nuanced understanding of its dynamics, it draws on one of Pakistan’s largest studies of its kind. Conducted between June and December 2022, the study profiled 289 private hospitals with a capacity of 25 beds and above, across 16 cities with a population of more than 500,000; surveyed 1,143 consumers of health services; and, conducted 58 structured and semi-structured qualitative interviews with hospital administrations, investors, innovators, academics, public functionaries and other industry stakeholders.
