Position Summary

Karandaaz Pakistan is seeking an Associate for the Equity team. The incumbent will be responsible for undertaking deal origination and developing the pipeline for KRN’s equity investments, analyzing and structuring transactions, executing transactions and portfolio management. As part of the aforementioned activities, the incumbent will be responsible for regular interaction with the sponsors of investee companies, participating in the governance of the investee company, ensuring that the business plans and KPIs are being met, highlighting any challenges or opportunities for the attention of the team. In addition to the above, the incumbent will also be responsible for preparing documentation for the Investment Committee.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Deal Origination

  • Support deal origination and pipeline development by identifying and evaluating potential private equity investments in a wide variety of sectors
  • Track and manage pipeline of potential private equity investments

Investment Evaluation & Execution

  • Prepare detailed financial models and projections incorporating potential business cases and scenarios to enable and support investment decision making
  • Manage legal, financial and tax due diligence streams for investment opportunities, including thorough review of industry and company details, evaluating the overall merits, risks, valuation and return profiles of companies across sectors
  • Communicate analysis of private equity investment opportunities, results, and recommendations via reports and presentations, including preparing qualitative and quantitative assessments, memoranda, and spreadsheets
  • Prepare high quality submissions for the Investment Committee
  • Review and participate in the negotiation and finalization of transaction documentation
  • Assist in execution of transaction documentation and closing action items

Portfolio Management

  • Actively engage with the management of investee companies and monitor the performance against the KPIs
  • Monitor, track and report portfolio performance and generate impact reports
  • Work alongside CIO and deal teams on strategic initiatives related to portfolio companies
  • Collaborate with Finance and Monitoring & Evaluation to track, monitor and evaluate portfolio performance and generate impact assessment reports
  • Prepare documentation for Karandaaz’s internal processes including creating and maintaining annual work plans and support in internal and external audits
  • Any other task as may be required

Candidate Profile

  • 5 years of experience in principal investing, impact investing, investment banking, corporate finance, management consulting or M&A group of a reputable corporation
  • Strong grounding and prior professional experience in financial valuation and business analysis
  • Experience in analysis, structuring, execution, and post execution monitoring of principal investments, and/or M&A advisory transactions would be strongly preferred
  • Bachelors Level Degree preferably in business, economics, accounting or related discipline from a reputable international or Pakistani institution
  • Professional exposure to working in investments business in Pakistan
  • Strong command of oral and written English and Urdu
