Karandaaz Capital aims to support the development of a market for MSME financing by deepening access to growth capital for MSMEs that will result in the generation of broad-based employment in Pakistan and financial returns for Karandaaz. Karandaaz makes investments that are categorized into four buckets: Direct Investments, Wholesale Investments, Strategic Investments, and Green Investments. These investments by Karandaaz help develop pilot investment models and identify new investment avenues and generate learning for commercial capital providers.

Karandaaz is a pioneer in Green projects and is looking at interventions in the Renewable Energy/Energy Efficiency (RE/EE) space in which it does both credit and equity transactions. The longer-term view is to set up a Green Fund that will bring in international and local investors.

Position Summary

Senior Analyst Green in the Corporate Investments & Credit (CIC) team will assist the team in deal management, sector and technology analyses along with origination and development of the pipeline for KRN’s green investments. 

Job Responsibilities

Deal Origination

  • Identify and evaluate potential new credit, equity and hybrid investments in the Green sector.
  • Track and manage pipeline of new potential private equity/credit investments in the Green sector.

Investment Evaluation & Execution

  • Conduct industry and market research
  • Conduct extensive financial modeling including sensitivity analysis to evaluate potential investment opportunities
  • Create and critically analyze financial models, business plans and investment thesis of the Green projects in general and Renewable Energy/Energy Efficiency (RE/EE) in particular.
  • Assist in performing due diligence for investment opportunities, including thorough review of industry and company details, and evaluating the overall merits and risks, valuation, and return profiles of companies across the sector.
  • Communicate analysis of investment opportunities, results, and recommendations via reports and presentations, including preparing qualitative and quantitative assessments, memoranda, and spreadsheets.
  • Assist in preparing high quality submissions for the Investment Committee including memoranda and financial models
  • Participate in the negotiation and finalization of transaction documentation
  • Assist in execution of transaction documentation and closing items
  • Keep track of new developments in the green space including commitments made in the Conference of the Parties (COP), Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) through Ministry of Climate Change etc.

Portfolio Monitoring

  • Deal with sponsors and higher management of portfolio companies to obtain and analyze data
  • Monitor the performance of portfolio companies including performance vis-à-vis business plan and KPIs.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Monitoring & Evaluation to track, monitor and evaluate portfolio performance and generate financial performance and impact assessment reports.
  • Prepare documentation for Karandaaz’s internal processes including creating and maintaining annual work plans and support in internal and external audits.
  • Establish and maintain quality client relationships to ensure responsive client service and to enhance new business opportunities.
  • Assist in dealing with external consultants on the Green projects.
  • Any other task necessary to ensure the optimum performance of the CIC department.

Eligibility

Education & Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor’s or equivalent degree. Specialization in Finance preferred including CFA and other professional certifications.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Corporate Finance, Investment Banking, Management Consulting, Principal Investing in alternate energy projects, Impact Investing, or M&A group of a recognized multinational corporation.
  • Candidates with experience of working with a financial institution and in assessing and structuring credit deals will be preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Understanding of a not-for-profit organization
  • Good knowledge of business finance and basics of financial analysis
  • Good knowledge of accounting regulations
  • Expert level skill in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Intermediate level skill in Google Suite
  • Strong command over oral and written English. Should be fluent in Urdu.
